As for the battery consumption problem, take note on all the application buttons; make sure they are not stuck. With normal use, you should get around 3-6 days of use from fully charged batteries.
Battery life is significantly influenced by the 'Auto-off' setting that you select which sets the amount of time before your organizer shuts itself off.
To change the default 2 minute setting, go to Applications, then Preferences, and select 1, 2, or 3 minutes from the 'Auto-off after:' pull down menu. Shorter settings, of course, preserve battery life, but give you less time to view your organizer's screen before it turns off.
Other factors like the number of applications installed on your Palm, excessive use of the Beam function, Alarm, System and Game sound and the volume of data stored on the Palm do influence the battery life.
Also, some 3rd party add-on programs would cause batteries lifespan to reduce significantly.

Also, problem could be issues on the holding battery power functionality, which could be due to the power circuitry of the handheld not responding properly to the charging process or an improper charging due to a defective charger.
To try and verify this, please try to perform the In-cradle reset.
In-Cradle Reset
An in-cradle reset will reset the charging circuitry in a rechargeable device. This is helpful if your device turns off as soon as you turn it on, or if it doesn't seem to be charging when you connect it to a power source.
The charger can be any type of cradle or cable that charges your device. The important bit is to make sure the power adapter is plugged in and supplying power to your device during the reset.
Connect your device securely to its charging cradle or cable, and connect the cable to a power source and perform a Soft Reset.
Soft Reset
A soft reset is similar to restarting a desktop computer. It's the most useful trick in your toolbox for fixing a variety of issues.
Soft resets usually do not affect your personal data on your device, unless your battery is low. If you see battery warnings, charge your battery immediately even if there is an error message onscreen. If you do lose data after a soft reset, you may have a more serious issue with your hardware that requires a repair. To do this:
1. Use an unfolded paper clip, or unscrew the reset tool at the top of your stylus.
2. Gently press the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your device.
3. After a soft reset, a logo screen appears, followed shortly by a Preferences screen asking you to set time and date.
If the problem persists even after an In-Cradle Reset, please try to borrow and use another set of charger, then perform another In-Cradle Reset. This would verify if the problem is due to a defective charger.
If a change in charger and performing another In-Cradle Reset do not resolve the problem of your handheld, please try to perform a Hard Reset on your handheld.
Backing Up Username Folder:
Please try to make a backup copy of your handheld User information before performing a Hard Reset on the unit:
1. Double-click 'My Computer' on the Windows® Desktop and open the C: Program Files.
2. Open the Palm or Pilot folder.
3. Right-click the User folder and select Copy.
4. Note: The User folder is a truncated version of your User name. Click on the link below for information on how to find your handheld's User folder on your desktop computer:
5.

6. Minimize the current open windows.
7. Right-click an empty location of your Windows Desktop and select Paste.
You should now see a backup copy of your User folder on the desktop. If you do not see a backup, please repeat steps one through five, until the backup is visible. If you have more than one handheld user synchronizing their information using the same computer, repeat steps one through five for each user.
HARD RESET
Warning: A hard reset will erase everything on your device. All your data will be removed, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings. Don't perform a hard reset unless you've backed up your data, or you're willing to lose everything.
HotSync note: Some third-party applications change the way your handheld backs up data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.
To perform a hard reset, please follow the instructions below:
1. Hold down the power (on/off) button on your device.
2. While holding down the power button, turn over your device so that you can see the back of it. Still holding the power button, unscrew the tip of your stylus to reveal the reset tool or use an unfolded paper clip or a similar small object, to gently press the RESET hole once.
3. When the Palm Powered logo appears, release the power button.
4. A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld. In response, press the UP button to complete the hard reset, erasing everything on your device.
Note: Pressing any other button will perform a soft reset, leaving your data intact.
5. Your device will then take you through a series of screens to calibrate the digitizer and verify the time and date.
Note: A hard reset does not delete the current date and time. It does restore other settings to the factory default.
